About Me

Posted on: February 7th, 2015 by jvfreeman

Having been a member of two pipe bands for many years, I have marched in many miles of parades and have performed at countless weddings, funerals, memorials, graduations, retirement communities, educational and school programs, birthday parties and more. My love of classical and early music led me to Renaissance bagpipes and broadside ballads in the early 90’s, eventually leading to the Great Highland bagpipes. My mother, having always wanted a piper in the family, capitalized on my early music interest and put a practice chanter in my Christmas stocking, complete with a connection to a local piping instructor. The journey has been wonderful, having brought me to Ireland and to many states as a performer so far. If you have a tune in mind that you don’t see on my list, call me and we’ll see if it can be played on pipes. My last notable request was “Burning Ring of Fire”, and the audience loved it.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting the website of The Artist Bagpiper. I live in Estero, Florida and have been playing the bagpipes since 1996.

My professional musicianship and years of performing experience provide you with beautiful, captivating music for your special event – clean fingerwork and excellent intonation are my standards. I offer Irish & Scottish, patriotic, hymnal and popular music for your selection, and I perform at a great variety of events. Over one hundred tunes are available for your selection, performed with musical excellence. Scottish smallpipes are also available for indoor events, pubs.

As I am self-employed, I offer the convenience of being able to play your event on short notice, at any time, and within a wide radius of travel. Please call me at 239 908-1543, or emailĀ, and I’ll be happy to discuss your needs and make arrangements.

Almost all of the events I play will cost $200. That price is for a duration of an hour, give or take. For additional wedding reception or rehearsal, half/full day events, longer distances, please contact me and we can discuss pricing. I accept checks (made out to James Freeman) and cash.
